This summer, Ms Nally, Ms. Gallegher, Ms. Daye and myself spent a week planning a PBL project with Susan Palmer, a visiting theater artist. We wove together an interdisciplinary project that involved, writing, science, visual art production, art history, music history, and theater. Our students learned about three artists whose own stories involved a love of sound: Jimi Hendrix, Charlie Ives and Wassily Kandinsky. The 3rd and 4th graders wrote a play about characters who traveled through time to understand the psychology, physics and biology of sound. The performance kept the audience engaged with it's humor and creative examination of scientific concepts.
